Those who also follow Bucky´s blog may remember when one of my Lundby´s was stolen. I still have not mentally recovered from the loss, but I realized that life must go on. Since Maija-doll from the Village Store was without a home because of the theft I just had to get her a new house from an online auction. I came up with valid reasons to do it; a) Maija needs a house, b) I didn´t have this model yet and c) I´m old enough to decide how to spend my little money on.

Kyseessä on siis Bartonin 70-80 -luvuilla valmistama nukkekoti. Barton ajautui sittemmin käsittääkseni Lundbyn tytäryhtiöksi, mutta jo aiemmin näillä taloilla oli yhteisiä piirteitä Lundbyn talojen kanssa; mittakaava on sama, samoin sähköviritykset. This is a dollhouse made Barton Company in the 70´s and 80´s. I think Barton since merged with Lundby but the houses had some common characters already before that; they are the same scale and the electricity pluggins are the same. For more history info, click on the link above.

Ulko-ovelta avautuu avara eteinen ja seurustelutila. Maija on innoissaan vanhoista kalusteista, joita hän löysi talon yläkerrasta. Maijan mukaan talo on toiminut kyläkouluna ja ollut jo pitkään tyhjillään. Hyllyt ja sohva kaipaavat vielä perusteellista puhdistusta, mutta sopivat hyvin talon vanhaan tunnelmaan.

From the door you can enter the wide hallway. Maija is exited about the old furniture she fould from upstairs. According to Maija the house used to serve as a schoolbuilding and has now been not in use for years. Shelves and sofa still need a good cleaning but they fit well to the old athmosphere of the house.

Portaiden alla on hyvä tila televisiolle. Lundbyn vanha tv-tuoli löytyi kirppikseltä; liimasin vain jalan paikoilleen.

Under the stairs there is a convenient space for the TV. Lundby´s old tv-chair was found from a fleamarket, I just glued the bottom back.

Yläkerran vanha luokkahuone muuntuu kirjastoksi, kunhan sisustus ja siivous etenee. Maija ei tiedä mitä tekisi vanhoille eläin/kirjainkuvioille, jotka on maalattu seinille. Ne ovat vähän kummalliset, toisaalta kertovat omalla tavallaan talon historiasta.

Upstairs old glassroom will evolve into a library room as soon as the cleaning up and decorating continues. Maija doesn´t know what to do with the old pictures with animals and letters..they are sort of weird but at the same time they tell the story of the house´s history.

Parasta talossa on aukeavat ikkunat ja sydämmelliset ikkunaluukut!

The best thing about the house are the windows and windowcovers that open!

Kirjastosta on sisäänkäynti Maijan makuuhuoneeseen.

From the library there is an enterance to Maija´s bedroom.

Makuuhuoneesta Maija haluaa maalaisromanttisen hempeän, jossa on rauhoittavat sinisen ja valkoisen sävyt. Vanhassa tapetissa on tuulimyllyjä, mutta ehkä tänne vielä muutama taulukin sopii.

Maija wants the bedroom to be romantic and country stylish with calming shades of blue and white. The old wallpaper has windmills on it but maybe she will still fit few paintings on the walls.

Pesuhuone on pieni, mutta toimiva. Maija suunnittelee tännekin tosin vielä kunnon remonttia ja haaveilee 80-luvulla asennetun suihkun vaihtamista kunnon vanhanajan kylpyammeeseen.

The bathroom is small but functioning. Maija is planning a renovation here still. She dreams about getting ride of the shower cubicle installed in the 80´s and replacing that with an old fashioned bathtub.

Keittiö on kodin sydän! Vihdoin hankkimani punaiset keittiökalusteet pääsevät käyttöön. Maija haluaa säilyttää vanhanajan tunnelman, mutta on silti tyytyväinen astianpesukoneen olemassaolosta..ei kiireinen yrittäjä jatkuvasti ehdi tiskaamaan.

Kitchen is the heart of every home! Finally I cab use the old red Lundby kitchen that I´ve had for some time. Maija wants to keep the old time´s feeling in the house but is still happy about owning a dishwasher..a busy entrepreneurer doesn´t have time to do dishes all the time!

Keittiön nurkassa on perintökaappi, Maija haluaisi löytää huutokaupasta vielä kulmaan mahtuvan mallin. Illalla on mukava teekupin ääressä kuunnella radiota ja unohtaa työpäivän kiireet.

In the corner stands Maija´s old cupboard that she got from her parents. She still wishes to come across with a model that is actually corner-fit.

Evening tea is nicely enjoyed in this kitchen while listening some radio.

Keittiöstä pääsee jälleen avaraan oleskelutilaan.

From the kitchen there is a doorway to the living room.

Olohuonetta hallitsee vanha varaava takka. Nuohooja on jo tilattu, ja Maija haaveilee käsitöiden tekemisestä takan lämmössä televisiota katsellen. Syksyhän se tässä kohta on taas edessä!

The living-rooms heart is the old charging fireplace. She has already ordered the chimneysweep and is now dreaming about knitting and watching TV while enjoying the sweet heat of fire. It is autumn soon again!

Tulossa toivottavasti lähiaikoina uusia kuulumisia nukkekotielämästäni. Katkaistaan hiljaisuus muutamalla kuvalla Turun nukkekotiharrastajien kokoamasta näyttelystä, jota kävin kurkkaamassa taannoisella kotikontureissullani. Hienoja juttuja oli!

Ooops! I haven´t updated the Villa Iris blog for a year. Shame on me. But that´s how life sometimes is, busy, busy.. I said farewells to Turku, my beloved arts&crafts corner and most of my dollhouses -for those only temporlarily. A new job took me to the capital city, first only for a summer but I stayed here. Now I only have one room + kitchen so there´s no time or room for dollhousing. Most of the Lundby houses are at my dad´s attic, here I have only few smaller projects at the moment. Well, I did have a Lundby here, but some idiot stole it from my storage unit downstairs -cant trust anyone these days!

I hope I will find time and energy to update more frequently from now on. Let´s quit the silence first with a few pictures from the exhibition that the Turku Dollhouse Club had put up. I went there last weekend -everything looked so fab! Most of the stuff is so that you have to know Turku before understanding how great they look..

This is a ferry going across the Aura river in Turku. A local celebrity!

Ihanaa kukkakioskia olisi voinut tuijottaa vaikka kuinka kauan.

Ja sitten toine turkulaine! Eli Puutorin vessa. Ennen yleisenä vessana toiminut rakennus Puutorilla on palvellut turkulaisia jo aika kauan baarina. Tätä tullaan kauempaakin katsomaan.

Another Turku sight! This is the Puutori Toilet. The actual building used to be a public toilet but it has served Turku people as a public house for a long time now. A must see in Turku!

It´s all in the details!

Visited a fleamarket again. Against my principles I decided to buy a bag of small Bratz-dolls (I dislike them..). In the bag was also a lot of small sized accessories which go perfectly with my Lundby-house inhabitants! So I got rid of the Bratz and kept these sweeties.

Nä on nukkislaisille juuri passelin kokoisia! Vaatteet on vähän, kröhöm, jänniä, mutta menevät varmasti Villa Iriksen äiskälle (eri asia on, haluaako kukaan nähdä näitä sen päällä..). Erityisen ihastunut olin pikkuriikkiseen hiustenkuivaajaan ja meikkijuttuihin. Näistä saa kivoja yksityiskohtia taloon, ei tartte aina kaikkea itse askarrella.

The clothes are rather interesting but I guess the women in Villa Iris might like some of these for a change. I was especially pleased with the tiny hair-drier and all the make up. These make nice details in a dollhouse and I don´t have to create everything by hand.

Samalla reissulla löytyi myös ihania miniastioita.

Found some adorable miniature dishes as well.

Found these old plastic furniture from a fleamarket. I´ll probably place them into one of my Lundby-houses.

Forgot to post this picture..I already received this lovely book as a christmas present from my boyfriend. There are loads of inspiring ideas to both Village Store and Rocky Road´s Inn -projects. Maybe something for Lundby-residents as well..

I totally forgot these pictures that I took last summer during my travel througout Europe. These pictures are from German Historical Museum in Berlin. There was a cute little dollhouse in the section that told the story of the events during the 2nd World War. It seems like National Socialism even had an effect on the world of little children. This dollhouse´s decorations included portraits of National Socialist leaders.

Olohuoneessa vallitsi arvokas tunnelma pitsiliinoineen ja tummaa puuta olevine kalusteineen.

The livingroom had a very decorative atmosphere with its lacy tablecloths and dark furniture.

Olkkarin nurkassa poseerasi herra johtaja itse..

At the corner of the livingroom there was a picture of mr leader himself...

Makuuhuone oli suloisen roosa. Mistäköhän tuollaisen kaluston saisi...?

The bedroom was cute with its rose-colouring. I wonder where I could get a furniture-set like that...?

Keittiössä oli kiva tunnelma, tapetteja lukuunottamatta. Tapetin kuvioinnissa Hiterin nuorisoseuran lapset touhuavat kaikkea mukavaa ja luonnetta kasvattavaa..

The kitchen was cozy, apart from the wallpaper. The wallpaper showed motifs with Hitler Youth scenes.

Vähän hejastuksia kuvassa, kun huoneet olivat tietysti pleksilasin takana. Tämä keittonurkkaus oli mielestäni oikein kotoisan oloinen.

This kitchen-corner I found especially cozy. Sorry about the reflections on the pictures, these rooms were of course behind a class.

Lopuksi vielä sivu jostain lastenlehdestä, josta nukkekodin omistaja sai jouluna leikatuksi poliittiseen maailmankatsomukseensa sopivat nukkekodin joulukoristeet.

The last picture is a page from a childrens magazine that offered christmas-decorations for dollhouses. Do I need to tell you more?

Ai niin, ja kävinhän mä Turun Kädentaitomessuillakin sekoamassa. Joku ihana kirjakauppa oli tuonut kaikenmaailman askartelukirjoja (ja maalaus, ja käsityö, ja...rahaa paloi) myytäväksi ulkomailta asti. Matkaan tarttui ihana opus nukkekotikokoisten takkojen ja liesien tekoon:

Kirjassa on jokaisesta mallista ns. "räjäytyskuva" eli helppo selostus siitä, mikä osa uunia on oikeasti mikäkin (cocktailtikku, korunosa, nappi...). Todella inspiroiva kirja niille jotka keräävät kaikki kavereidenkin roskat ja rikkinäiset korvikset matkaansa!

Ja vielä tällaiset löytyi. Eipä näissä mitään uutta ja ihmeellistä ole, mutta ideoita kumminkin. Tuota minikokoista ristipistoilua mun täytyy jossainvaiheessa kokeilla. Kun ehtis vaan.

The decorating project hasn´t developed lately since the decorator has so much other stuff in her mind at the moment.

Olohuoneen hyllykkö kaipaa pientä tuunausta. Sain sentään irroitettua mukana tulleen muovitelevision ja vaihdoin tilalle Lundbyn oman mallin, johon tulee valo. Oli aivan passelin kokoinen!

The shelving in the living room needs a facelift. This is not Lundby furniture btw. I removed the TV and replaced it with Lundby´s TV. Fits perfectly!

Olohuoneen parvekepäätyyn sovittelin kirpparilta löytämääni ihanaa hyllyä. Saattaa olla että hylly päätyy vielä johonkin toiseen projektiin, koska on niin aasialaisen tyylinen, mutta kokonsa puolesta sopii hyvin Villa Irikseen. Vieressä netistä löytämäni Lundbyn akvaario.

This is the balcony-section of the living room. Found this lovely bookcase from a fleamarket. I might use it with another project eventually, because it has that certain "Asian style" with it. The aquarium is from an internet shop and is Lundby´s. I had to fix the lights but it looks good now.

Kirjaston hyllyjärjestys alkaa vihdoin vakiintua. Haluaisin huoneeseen tumman yleisilmeen, mutta toisaalta Lundbyn omat kirjahyllyt sopivat huoneeseen hyvin. Voisihan nuo maalata, mutta toisaalta olen yrittänyt etten "aitoja" Lundbyja kauheasti tuunailisi. Ehkä se sitten riittää jos laitan tähän tummat tapetit?

The library. Finally decided which shelvings I want to use. I´d love to make this room a little bit darker but on the other hand I don´t like to modify original Ludby stuff like these bookcases. Maybe I´ll just paint the walls darker.

Villa Iriksen keittiö muuttui kertaheitolla, kun löysin uuden keittiömallin netistä. Tämä Lundbyn uusi "kesämökkikeittiö" on kiva poikkeus Lundbyn muuten nykyisin niin "muoviseen" linjaan; ovet ovat ihan oikeaa puuta. Aika haperoa puuta, mutta puuta kuitenkin. En ole muuten kovin innoissani Lundbyn uustuotannosta, mutta tämän siis kelpuutin.

The kitchen downstairs. The whole room got a new look after I decided to use this new kitchen set from Lundby. I think this is a nice exception to Lundby´s lets-make-everything-from-plastic -trend. The cupboards are made from actual wood! Not very good quality but at least it is not plastic...

Koko keittiön tunnelma raikastui kertaheitolla. Mippa ja Jarmo istuvat iltaa keittiössä.

The kitchen looks fresher now. I like the fact that u can actually see the decorations on the end wall now. This is Mippa (the granny) and Jarmo (the husband) spending an evening in the new kitchen.

Itse istun parasta aikaa iltaa ranskalaisen pikkukylän pubissa. Onneksi on internet. :) Matkani jatkuu tästä nukkekoteilun luvattuun maahan Englantiin, jossa vietän opiskelujen parissa seuraavat kuusi kuukautta. Voi olla että tätäkin blogia päivittelen, mutta toistaiseksi Villa Iris ja sen asukit ovat siis Suomessa hellästi lakanaan verhoiltuna. I´m on my way to England, where I´m supposed to spend the following few months studying in the University of Surrey. Already looking forward to all the dollhouse-opportunities in England! I might not have time to update this blog while I´m gone as Villa Iris is in Finland covered with a sheet. My other miniatyre stuff in in Bucky´s Blog and the news from England can be read from my travelling blog (only in finnish, sorry).
